When I wrote on my facebook status update, “Vince is thinking that Robots are indeed a bunch of mindless jerks that will be the first up against the wall when the revolution comes.” My good friend Pete Marandos said it best when we wrote, “WTF Vince?”
Really, WTF?
It is simple, it is no secret I don’t trust robots, I would not have a robot clean my house, do my dishes, or watch the children. Why? Because robots are mindless. They have no mind. They are a group of triggers and logic. This means that they are programmed to react to a variety of different instances. A robot vacuum bumps into the wall, a code is triggered that says, “I have hit something now go another direction.” The robot then uses a formula such as ran=Math.round(Math.random()*8); switch(ran){ case 0: moveUnit(“left”); break;case 1: — You get the point.
Why do I see this as a problem? It is all up to chance. Theoretically there could be dirt in a section of the floor and the robot will never get it. The robot does not care if there is dirt on the floor or not. It is simply following its instructions.
The upside to this is that if the Robot is not doing its job or if I am just tired of it, or even if I just wanted to have a little fun, I can put it in my skeet machine, yell pull, and blast it out of the air.
This is the attractive part of robotics. When the revolution comes and we find ourselves at the mercy of these programmed bots that troll around our homes we will have no problem tossing them up against the wall and making an example out of them.
Now one might say, “well what about robots like in Battlestar Galactica, and then start some debate about consciousness being embedded into a robotic life form. I say this, WTF? We will cross that bridge when we come to it.
What about the Jerk part? Simple, this is all based on Douglas Adams Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, in which the encyclopedia Galactica defined Robots to be a bunch of mindless jerks that will be first up against the wall when the revolution comes. The Hitchhikers Guide when into the future and found that robots were indeed a bunch of mindless jerks that were first up against the wall when the revolution comes.
If you have not figured it out by now, this post makes no sense. I literally made it up as I was going along. I am doing this mainly to see how it integrates into facebook, but seriously, thanks for reading it.
